The A-2 Flight Jacket was made famous by U.S. Army Airmen who wore them as a testament to their bravery,
independence and skill. Service tested in 1930, the A-2 was adopted as the regulation Army Air Corps flying jacket on May
9,1931. Its styling continues to be a perfect example of form following function. the A-2 jacket, available as per original
specifications in Russet or Seal brown horsehide or medium brown goatskin. Its lining of 100% cotton and 100% wool knit cuffs
& waistband is also true to the original.

With a loss of 3°F for every thousand feet of altitude, the W.W.II pilots and bombardiers flying at 30,000
feet in the middle of winter needed a seriously warm coat. The B-3 came through. First issued on May 8, 1931, for open- cockpit
altitude flying, the B-3 has Shearling in the body, sleeves, and tall neck. The soft outer lamb skin is specially treated
to make it even more resistant to water, gasoline, oil, and dirt. And as tough as lambskin is, we added even tougher horsehide
to those high abrasion areas most vulnerable to the points and sharp edges protruding from a metal aircraft cockpit. Specifics:
brass zipper with a generous Shearling-lined windscreen; tall collar with snaps to keep it down in wind and double straps
to keep it up in cold; single glove/map pocket (officers must have their hands free to salute, not in their pockets); and
epaulette tabs for insignia. Earlier B-3s had full epaulettes, but they dangerously interfered with Parachute harness straps.

The A-1 Flight Jacket was developed in the 1920's and manufactured as Navy issue from November 1927
to 1931, when the G-1 replaced it. The A-1 secures with seven horn buttons down the center front. Like the original A-1, our
jacket features 100% wool rib knit for the collar, cuffs and waistband.

| The G-1 was introduced into service in late 1930s as the official flight jacket of the U.S.
Navy and Marine Corp flyers. The bi-swing pleat in the shoulder (which extends down the back to a belted waist) and double
gussets under each arm provided for ease of movement in places which had notoriously small cockpits (as well as provided the
movment to swim, if needed..). Our jacket faithfully reproduces the two large front, button flap pockets, with radiused lower
corners and a gently curved flap. The same Merino lamb Mouton fur collar (with button closure flap and white "USN" stamp on
the jacket's under-collar), zipper wind-flap with "USN" perforation and 100% rayon lining will keep you warm in the air or
on the ground. |
